Hydration Awareness Challenge

I am challenging you to track your hydration for one week. This may not be an issue for you but some will find they are inconsistent with the amount of fluid they consume. That nagging headache, low energy levels and morning fatigue could be a result of dehydration in the body. When someone is dehydrated it can mean a couple different things. It can be simply from not getting enough fluid in the body the day before but it can also mean a sodium or electrolyte imbalance in the body. I have attached links below that you can read more in-depth as you please but some signs and symptoms of dehydration include but are not limited to dark urine, low urine output, dry mouth, dizziness or headaches, thirst, vomiting and/or diarrhea episodes to name a few. Vigorous exercise,long walks, sweating, etc are all examples of things that tend to dehydrate us and we need to keep a water bottle with us at all times, taking sips periodically throughout the day.

How do I track my hydration:
Food Journal is a good way to see where you are getting hydration. Larger people usually require more water, as do athletes and those who sweat heavily but there is no set amount of fluids needed per day it is very dependent. If you suspect you aren’t getting enough fluids tracking your body weight in the morning can help keep track of hydration levels. ” To monitor body weight, one should be weighed every morning. Contraindications:
Make sure to understand the side effects of your medications. Some are diuretics which dehydrate you and some require less fluid because you don’t want to be hyper-hydrated. Talk to your doctor if you are unsure. Remember sips periodically is key throughout the day, it is possible to be over hydrated as well.

I know, I know why would we do this challenge in winter when the heat plays an important role in dehydration you ask? As it gets colder we are sometimes less likely to reach for the glass of water we need. Certain foods give us water 💦 but as it gets colder sometimes we reach for comfort food. Water can play an important role in helping us lose weight, giving us that feeling of fullness and preventing us from overeating when the weather sometimes makes us want to hibernate on the couch with our favourite snack. Get your co-workers, friends, family on board and start hydrating with them!
